About Jason
Always an explorer, Jason’s journey through life has always embraced change and welcomed every opportunity to experience the natural world. From the fridgid cold of Churchill, Manitoba, to the lush forests of Kaua’i Hawai’i, and beyond, Jason seeks out unique examples of Nature to immortalize in copper.
Jason’s meticulously crafted copper wire tree sculptures, inspired by the beauty of nature, convey an easy stillness and calm in an increasingly loud world. Patiently wound out of copper wire and mounted in hand made dishes, Jason’s sculptures radiate a warm elegance.
An advocate for humanity’s relationship with the natural world, Jason’s timeless copper trees are a reminder that Nature is not here as a convenience to us, that it will adapt to live on with or without us.
An early career artist based near Toronto; Jason continuously strives to explore every intricate facet of his craft and has many beautiful and bold ideas yet to become reality.
Jason’s five years as an artist has brought him into contact with a wide range of people from all over the world. He is most grateful for the wonderful human connections he has made through his life.
Although I was born in Toronto, I haven’t found the place I want to be from quite yet, my location has been up in the air since I graduated college. I went to school for Industrial programming, a huge shift compared to the art I make now. I loved working with my hands when I was a kid, always taking things apart, learning how they work and putting them back together, or making something else entirely. Art was never on my mind back then, I just liked making cool, fun, or silly things out of other things. Clay, parts, or especially Lego were always in my hands at any given moment. After working for a few years, I craved change, something else, and I made the jump. I left my programming career behind and explored around Canada for several years, volunteering to extend my savings. I discovered wirework in late 2020, inspired by the memory of a short video i once saw on the internet many years ago. I dove right in with any copper wire I had. I made an awful looking tree out of 00 gauge wire and shortly after tried again with 24 gauge wire. it was a little better, and I have been refining my craft ever since. When I’m not ultra-focused on making a tree, I’m birdwatching with my partner, playing Factorio, rowing on my Erg, or dreaming about space elevators and Sci-Fi.

My parents! Immigrants to Canada, they worked themselves to the bone to have a comfortable life. They tried everything they could, some things worked, some didn’t. They fought for what they wanted, sometimes losing, but they always kept going for it. Eventually got exactly what they wanted while being wonderful human beings.

What are you looking forward to as an early career artist?
So. Many. Things! Growing up I felt like I didn’t have a voice. Art has started to change that for me. I want to use my art and voice to bring attention to important topics surrounding the environment. I want to meet and learn from other artists, same craft or not, and build relationships with them! I want to be part of a community that shares values and principles that will improve the world as much as I can.
